Obviously using Chrome notifications will cause more of a battery drain than not using them. But I am not seeing any sort of drastic battery usage from Chrome by doing this. Are you sure that your battery drain is actually caused by Chrome with a Facebook tab open, or is it just a correlation and not a causation?

I use Accuweather for this and I have only 0.2% of battery usage currently.

For Facebook, try the mobile site with Chrome and turn on Chrome notifications for Facebook.

Trouble with using the site instead of the app is the lack of notification.
