This reads a lot like today’s Guardian Football Weekly podcast, and, came out about 2 hours after the GFW show did this morning.

Here’s the Buyer’s Remorse status of “Franchise Player Deals” in DC right now:

Randomness may or may not make it fun.

Randomness may or may not make it fun.

They can both be true. Sancho may be better than Pulisic, but Dortmund may also be counting on the £60 million from his sale and treating him like an NFL prospect treats a bowl game...

My favorite Riggins stat is that he was state record holder in all the sprints for high school boys in Kansas.

Yes. Everything in the history of the universe was shit until last year. Please stop talking about anything before the invention of avocado toast.

As a Wizards fan, I am ecstatic if Oubre develops into an all-star player who goes on to have a long and serious beef with the Celtics.  It’s pretty much the only chance I see for getting one over on Boston in my lifetime.

40 years into the boom and can anyone say what the US style of play is?

Yeah, they’ve only won 8 of the last 11 titles. Hardly perennial! More like 80percential!

Now playing

Still think I prefer the McAteer kick for the body crumple it induced, but this is pretty bad.

I think the issue is that 6 years on from Fergie, his players are still called on to bail out the team.

This is going to end with him on Black Jeopardy, right?

And I’d like to add that kids growing up in the Dominican Republic seem to be at least equivalent, athletically, to kids growing up in SoCal with crossfit gyms and year-round baseball training. Maybe getting off the devices and running around playing (or having to do manual labor) makes more difference than a few

This idea that people weren’t strong or fit or fast in the 1920s (or 50s, or 80s) has to stop. Natural Born Heroes is a cool book that goes into this— but the takeaway is that we were pretty damn strong (and fast) when our lives depended on it.

Yeah, that’s a funny take. Whatever disfunction there is in DC, Harper’s got to take some of the blame, right? The worst move — firing Dusty — may have backfired but it’s the kind of things that smart teams do.

Can you give us precis?

I was going to old man grumble about the tackling, but if you watch the Tony Dorsett run, you’ll see some pretty silly handbags style tackling there, too.

I don’t know anything about this trade, but I’ll second the motion that sports leagues need to be real careful with tanking.

Do we think there was a mandate that the new coach be a Germano-phile? (I assume he’s ethnically German, but for more to the point he spent most of his career there).

This may be stretching the point a bit...
