I’m with you on this. The Oculus and its ilk are innovative new tech and I feel it’s perfectly priced. Sony was selling a head-mounted display for $799 about 3 years ago and it wasn’t anywhere near as feature rich and immersive as the Oculus and no one batted an eye.
