I think that prognostication relies too much on the assumption that a super intelligent AI would be able to recursively improve itself on an order of growth similar to Moore’s Law. That is pretty far from a safe assumption IMO.

Spot on. If and/or when we create an AI that is either super-intelligent or has the capacity to evolve super-intelligence we will have no way of predicting its end-state ( or relative end-state). Implementing rigid rules and mechanisms intended to exert control over that AI just leaves us open to catastrophic…
