I didn't feel like it was mocking non-binary genders, I felt like it was highlighting how naïve and shallow Zoey is. Her character rarely had dialogue with anyone other than her family. She openly dismissed the idea and I feel like there is going to be an LGBTQ episode and "acceptance" in the near future.
