Touch and goes . The purpose of these tests is to gather data. You can do multiple approaches without having to do a cat shot.

The corsair, crusader, Panther/cougar were all navy jets with a single engine - to name a few...
It's shortened for time, the launch sequence for testing could take a lot longer than you'd want to watch.
I can clarify a little further; his hook was up therefore he was just trying to do a touch n go. If he had his hook down and missed all the wires for whatever reason, then that would be a bolter.
That wasn't a bolter, it was a touch n go. Every carrier qual by each pilot involves touch n gos as well as arrestments.
Great video, the op tempo is way more relaxed then a line unit would be, it is a rare sight to see deck personnel "casually" strolls by :)
C-1 not B-25
Saving the A/B for when the aircraft is fully loaded with stores & fuel, maybe?
Why not? They'd have to trial touch and go's as well as landing and cat launches to ensure the landing gear is up to scratch.
I've always liked watching cat-shots from carriers, even though I come from an Air Force background... :) And as I've said before, this plane looks really cool, and I have to admit I like the F-35B (for the same reason I like the AV-8B, it's the coolness factor in watching a jet take off vertically and hover). But…
Sorry, did not mean it to be rude. I think this air war is a total f'ing joke. I have held back for various reasons but my editorial on it will be coming this week. Hitting dozers is a symptom of a totally unwinnable policy and poor targeting. If you think this is taking on ISIL than you are completely wrong.
yes, #3 is target wire for OK pass on Nimitz
Great article Tyler. One question: what are the disadvantages of this type of ship? Is it only that they are slow? I imagine pushing that much "frontal area" through the water requires a hell of a lot of power and fuel as well.
You know if we were in a Casino and this was beatable in the sports book, I would put more money on the US buying the A400M than the KC390
We call it the Raptor, and guess what! People bleed in war! Do you also talk about the depravity of hunters but go to the market to suck down your factory farmed meats everyday?
Read the damn article. It goes into detail as to why the Raptor's combat use is overdue. In which it could have SAVED lives.
Read the piece! It goes into detail of combat operations that we got involved with where the F-22 could have saved lives in the long run.
The reason why we have big carriers is so we can launch big planes with big payloads.
No, but they will face much more deadly missiles and fighter sweeps.
