Not petty. People like Wurtzel are extremely exhausting in real life, even though they can be charming and amusing at times. I always steer clear.

That’s what I was going to point out. School sports are free. They even gave us our uniforms. That meant you also could just try a sport you didn’t have any long term interest in, because there wasn’t that monetary investment. And you might turn out to like it.

I loved playing ALL the sports as a kid. But that was back before people weren’t trying to train their kids to be pro athletes at 6 years old. The competitiveness is crazy now. I tend to be more on the heavyset side. And I swear, whenever my weight starts to get really out of hand, I remember I used to run track and…
I thought the point of hustling was to reach a point where you could stop hustling. Like, you got the princess gig. It’s done.
Oh, wow. You missed a whole slew of blues Christmas classics that I grew up with. “Merry Christmas, Baby” and “Please Come Home For Christmas,” are all-time favorites. And in the Santa category, the incomparable B.B. King’s “Back Door Santa” would crush the competition. Forget the coy allusions, these songs drip with…
Tom Perrotta also gave us Election, where a teenage Tracy Flick is consensually sleeping with her teacher. And that was played entirely for laughs, and worse, Tracy was the villian. Only recent revisiting of the story has somewhat seen it from Tracy’s point of view. So in many ways, the teenage girl is treated worse…
I dunno. It’s more like celebrities starting cults to make themselves gods. And yeah, so far, it’s mainly Kanye. But we gotta nip this one in the bud.
I think this is the one case where #NotAllMen really saved their asses.
I think some people are voting cancel because it shouldn’t be a thing.
This is where I was. Some kids don’t have a lot of role models of where it works. But not because they don’t see educated people. But because they see even for the educated brown people, the system was not made to work. The teachers, the nurses, the IT people even. They’re still not making venture capitalist money and…
Eh, the French! Gotta love em. The bebe probably came out smoking a Gauloise.
I mean. I hate it when I’ve been pronouncing geographical names wrong all along. Qatar was the last one that threw me for a loop. Now this! So embarrassing. (I did know enough to drop the “the” before Ukraine, a while back though.) Any other cities or countries out there, we’ve all been offending with our bad…
I have no idea who Sarah Dessen is. I’m just here to say that Judy Blume is one of our greatest living American writers. I don’t care what anyone says.
Well isn’t that the trick of evil ideologies like supremacy or organized religion - to make you feel ashamed over superficial things that are completely natural. Meanwhile the ones making you feel ashamed are committing real atrocities, like lynching, genocide, child molestation..
We can’t even have chicken sandwiches anymore! The whole Popeyes thing was fun until real restaurant critics started gushing over it, journalists tried to tell us what it meant from a cultural standpoint, and then, inevitably, some people got killed. This is why we can’t have fun anymore.,
Sometimes, when I feel a bit of anxiety coming on, I watch this video of Jacques Pepin making a French omelet. He’s so sure with his movements. You know you are safe and in good hands. https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1013884-fines-herbes-omelet
As an observer of my friends’ teenage kids, I can absolutely say this is true. They all want to do as little work as possible, make tons of money and have people adore everything they do. This is their view of what life should be. It’s going to be bad for all of us when they realize that’s not how it’s going to go,…
Yes, I think Diana was probably not the easiest person to deal with. Not that Charles didn’t treat her horribly. But I do think part of the fascination with her is that she was just a little crazy. We like crazy famous people. She was the last interesting royal. Kate and Meghan just are too darn stable.
Aww. It would have been nice, though, if the trauma of their mother’s death made them have an unbreakable bond.
