So, I see what you’re saying and I don’t 100% disagree as seen in my earlier post, but I think one thing to consider is that you never see an Oompa Loompa outside of the factory, and no one’s ever seen one outside the factory or knows they exist, so it’s hard to imagine why not a single one would be like hey you know…
I get how it seems slavery-like, but isn’t it explained that they chose to come and work for him? I mean...yes, I get that there’s a segment of our population that says that about the US’s enslaved people, but I could see how it could work if you don’t think about it too much.
The marketing at the time was LEGENDARY. No one, even internationally, could avoid it. Even BROS (pronounced “brawss,” a very popular band in Europe at the time,) wore clothes in their videos with the logo.
