Best comparison I have is Agents of SHIELD before and after the Hydra reveal.

The show points out later that Danny is literally trying to go back to how life was before his training to try and fit in somewhere, like he never did in K'un Lun… But his only point of contact was from his ten year old self.
He's literally been on another WORLD. I guarantee he was literally quoting Lei Kung.
Considering that the character is half Japanese and white as rice in the comics, it's easy enough to be confused. I didn't realize she was supposed to be part Asian in the comics when I first saw her in X-Men for ten years until I finally got the original Iron Fist run.
She's no less critical of his fighting style too, which is playful here, and brutal later.
It shows in episode 8 in a good way, at least.
I LOVED episode six, but admittedly I spent a large portion of it screaming incoherently because of who fought Danny in the episode.
Which makes sense in that the basic character description in the original post is basically accurate.
Based on what we've seen even to this point of his training, this is NORMAL to him.
She flat out tells Danny as much, which helps explain a lot of his behaviors that just go away after this episode.
I agree. Surprisingly, she's probably the most straightforward person in the cast too.
It genuinely took me a few minutes to realize Lei Kung wasn't telepathically harassing him.
… there's some truth there.
It's subtle enough that I didn't realize that was the intent all along until episode 11.
We actually get to see flashbacks soon..!
It's THE character arc of the show… Which Danny doesn't bother to explain for a while.
There's a reason, and it's a big plot point.
Episode ten.
Colleen 's training is intentionally bizarre, and is an actual plot point.
By the endgame, the "why" of this becomes a major plot point.
