Well, he said on the earnings call last night that Tesla takes up most of his working hours. So much that it’s hard for him to even take a Sunday off. I’m sure you can definitely take him at his word on that.

I’d also point out that other companies like BYD are eating Tesla’s lunch overseas in the entry to mid level market. That leaves Tesla in just the high end over there, but you now have BMW, Porsche, etc, with the brand names and build qualities people are familiar with already in the high end market.
A friend of mine spent $100k+ on a Model S Plaid and the day it arrived you could see the panel gaps from the delivery truck and the front passenger seat wasn’t secured correctly so it would try and move side to side. There were some other issues with the car so he refused delivery. 45 days later and he still didn’t…
Before 2022, those inclined to even be interested in EVs had one good choice. Now there are lots. And many more coming. Tesla is fucked, and it’s been fucked hard by Elon.
Idk what people are talking about when they say Teslas are luxury. The interiors are horrible. Besides being uncomfortable, they look and feel cheap af.
Nothing wrong with the build quality of Teslas made in Germany or China. Must just be you Murricans being lazy then, OR, quite possibly, this constant harping on Tesla build quality is just empty old hat.
I was recently in a friend’s Model 3 and I couldn’t help but be struck by how cheap the interior looked and felt. I know it is supposed to be minimalistic, but it seemed low rent in practice. It felt like an appliance. My Lexus runs circles around it as a nice place to sit.
Absolutely this for me. For years I assumed a Tesla was an inevitable purchase for me just because of the Superchargers. Even as quality began to dip, and Elon slowly got worse, I figured I could hold my nose through that to get the only vehicle that had a good charging experience. While I *did* break past that before…
After living with my Kona EV with SLOW (70kw peak but averages more around 40-50 kw) DC fast charging and also a mediocre range (from 220-300 miles a charge) for a year and put 23k miles on it in the said year...
Which is why I brought up Supercharger access. I’ve talked to so many people who felt like Tesla was their only option because of the charging network. Once the dam broke there, suddenly anyone who wants an EV gets the biggest benefit of owning a Tesla without having to buy a Tesla.
That’s definitely one of the reasons, but the other reason is probably that their cars are now 6+ years old and fucking old now interior or exterior wise.
If your ICE vehicle has a 15-gallon gas tank, but you can never put in more than 7.5 gallons, I think you’d be shocked and angry...
Well, considering it falls well short of the promised range back in 2019 (or so), yes, people expect that they at least tried to get the promised range.
Take your star.
Yes, yes they are. Because they expect the promised range, and that is how Tesla calculated that range. There is no defending this.
no you misunderstood I was the lead engineer, I was in charge of putting lead in the thing to ummm reduce vibrations !
“... one of the Cybertruck’s lead engineers...”
We’re doing CoTD again? What a throwback.
Except that all those American car and battery factories are now being built. So long term win.
Thanks for the QOTD! Good on you for naming Joe Manchin. That guy single-handedly poisoned the whole EV credit. Not only are fewer and fewer cars eligible, the higher price $80k limit for trucks is an encouragement for EV trucks (and expensive luxo trucks at that) over EV cars. This is totally the wrong direction to…
