This is the best article I’ve read on Jalopnik in a long time, possibly ever. Bravo. I grew up as a truck hater but after living in the South for the last 10 years and developing many outdoorsy interests I’m finally giving in and fully plan to buy an F-150 Tremor later this year. The added capability and sense of

Oh no I addressed that in the first paragraph - this is simply my take on this issue that has been around since I was in kindergarten. I definitely did not invent this issue, and that’s why I wrote this.

I mean why not, I’ve been on twitter for years - this is nothin lmao

Toni I cannae for the life of me believe you are responding to comments here.... it’s a bold strategy, Cotton, let’s see if it pays off for ‘em

I think you hit on it though - trucks are protected from market forces making them artificially accessible. If that went away the ‘problem’ would mostly solve itself.

No offense taken! This was 100% an op-ed by me to try and really uncover what makes us want trucks, and that is a very correct analysis of it. Basically I wanted to present the facts, offer a possible reason, and leave it at that. Thank you for reading!

You get it. I couldn’t have put this better myself. Thank you for reading and commenting, and I hope we can avert the disaster we’re all headed towards.

I bought an older 4runner because, A. roads here are terrible and I was sick of destroying the bottoms of small sedans, and B. the need to evacuate from hurricanes with all the people pets and supplies to stay away for 2 to 3 weeks.

I do like how this article tried to figure out the reasons for Americans to be so infatuated with trucks instead of screaming about banning them or some such nonsense. It was poignant and touched on a lot of good points about the possible psychology of this buying trend. It even explored the pros and the cons of these

Over the past 40 or so years, our country has deferred maintenance on the road system because taxes bad, gas must be cheap and freedom. We’ve also systematically cut almost all the strings to our safety nets, deregulated everything we could get away with and what we’ve ended up with is a world where honestly, Trucks

I just wish appropriately aimed headlights were a thing.

That was really well written. Thank you.

The injection of reality isn’t the Green Mob, its the lazy spoiled shithead american public that denies global warming, can’t wear a mask, and jerks off to Donald Trump that needs the injection of reality.

Yes, hybrids should be the short run solution.

But you blamed the wrong people, as is usual for a manipulated

When we drill for oil/dig for coal, we’re taking carbon that’s been successfully sequestered for tens of millions of years and reintroducing it to the atmosphere once it’s burned. Every time an ICE vehicle is operating, it’s converting sequestered carbon back into atmospheric carbon and incrementally working to raise

I’d call myself a rabid member of the “Green Mob” you refer to and I see it as eminently sensible.

Your sarcasm game is on point good sir.

I’ve been wondering why more discussion about a more efficient alternative fuel have been glossed over in favor of the EV craze.

I, for one, am all for taking a Volkswagen-controlled company’s word about clean fuel technology at face-value without any critical commentary.

Yeah, most fuels aren’t great if they aren’t used in a timely matter.   This idea is sponsored by Stabil.

I’ve got an EV/range extender setup, and it’s been great.  I typically drive 25 miles/day but occasionally (like today) drove 20 and then needed to go another 20 without having time to do a full charge.  I still just get in the car and go where I need to, and I haven’t been to a gas station since x-mas.
