I'm with you if the message is that people should consider adults when no kittens are available. :) But when the shelter is filled to the brim, freeing up a cage through adoption is freeing up a cage through adoption.

For my first pet ever in my life, I decided to get a kitten. Because I wanted the experience of seeing a pet through from baby through old age, an experience most of my friends already have had, some several times over.I feel that this is a legitimate desire, and hardly think I am a "yutz" for wanting that.

Whenever you're feeling guilty about formula, I recommend you remind yourself about the wonderful life, full of love, stability and support, that you're giving the child.

I'm curious about how the research on the importance of breastfeeding distinguishes breastfeeding from drinking breast milk. I know both are associated with certain health and bonding benefits but is the hierarchy of "optimum" really 1) breastfeeding, 2) pumping your own milk, 3) feeding your child someone else's

1) Congratulations! So exciting!

I wish donated breast milk was regulated and more readily available. I'm a prospective adoptive mom and will forever feel guilty that I have to formula feed (I know that one can produce milk without being pregnant by taking supplements, but I've also been told that production is lower, so formula would have to be

Well I, for one, am shocked. SHOCKED, I tell you, that a nearly-completely unregulated trade of human milk product could turn up with impurities.

As a former cat shelter volunteer, I plead with you to adopt an adult cat. Every yutz under the sun wants a kitten. Save an older cat from death!

How is it not much better? Men need to feel needed, women need to be put in their place. Men need to ejaculate, women need to know their place. Men need to grow up, women need to be controlled. Men need to cheat, women need to be disciplined. Only one of those has a pattern of control, oppression and violence.

Where on earth do you get that from out of the above text? WTF?

it's not about 'allowing' it. It's that these are the things people are interested in with regards to women and how that's a commentary on society. It's not about "this should be illegal" it's about "sexism is still a problem, here's an example."

I'm glad all these things worked out for you, but I know PLENTY of parents who never get their shit together. A kid is NOT magical motivation to get your shit together - only YOU can want to get your shit together.

All of these advantages do not happen for everyone. Sometimes, people have kids and still do not get their shit together.

Fuck this article and it's casual attitude toward unplanned pregnancy.

and yet every single point she makes begins with "you'll".

Ok... I'll fess up. I divorced two years ago, so no chance of being able to start a family... And I had been trying to get pregnant two years before that. Now I live in judgey-judgey NYC where a guy won't look at me unless I have a 401K and am under 35, so I don't think I'm going to get the chance to have children.

Yup.

I'm happy for you that you managed to get your shit together in you mid thirties, but some of us (who are younger than you) already have our shit semi-together and a surprise pregnancy would still not read like this. It sounds like you used your pregnancy as a convenient excuse to get your life together . . .which

So all these things happen when you get pregnant? Man- all the world's problems would be solved by getting everyone prego!
