Rob backed away after the backlash. Tara doubled down.

In order to draw someone into a scam, you need a face. Every Ponzi scheme needs someone charismatic or famous enough to launch it. If I walked up to you offering a bauble that has no value other than speculative, you’d laugh me off. If a well known person does it, you’d at least be more likely to listen to them.

Also, Troy subsequently indicated that he wouldn’t license HIS voice for an NFT. This is just taking advantage of people new in the industry.

Troy, Tara and Rob are all well established actors that are not going to see dogshit like this steal enough of their lunch, fast enough to hurt them for awhile. The NFT is the dumbest part of this, but even without the NFT tacked on, this is the coming end of voice acting in games and a lot of animation.

Rob Paulsen and Tara Strong also on the NFT grift. What is it with VO actors and get rich quick schemes?

So, are these audio clips that can be used across games and apps something only you can hear or that everyone can supposedly hear? For everyone to hear, wouldn’t they need to be on a server somewhere that’s connected to everything?

Wait are we talking about who gets to be called a “real journalist”.......in a KOTAKU article?

Had no idea, but that’s good to know! Given the context of the gif though, it seemed clear to me when I first listened that “Dansen” was being used as a translation of “Dance”.

I mean I find it odd it’s not common knowledge because it’s not especially hard to find, even if you’re not actively looking for it. Like I just turned 25, so this remix started taking off when I was in middle school, but I still learned this history purely from internet osmosis by the time I was in high school.

That’s the thing about copyright, the jackasses that buy them sometimes try to control the narrative like, case in point, this Giovanni piece of shit.

I realized that my memory served me wong. As stated in the article, the dance was taken from the opening scene from the adult visual novel game entitled “Popotan.” My bad.

So true! I even think Kotaku covered the original meme in a article several years ago. Again, if u recall correctly, it was Ashcraft who covered it.

The Futurama episode where there’s a theme park trying to reproduce the moon landing comes to mind.

Yeah, but that’s missing the point. People who grew up in that kind of environment and era would know, but fuck dude, ask a kid that was your age in the 2000s and they’d probably say it was a totally different group. That’s the weird wobbly thing that’s happening.

I’m utterly convinced the author of the article set out to make people like us feel really old.

Pfft, the Japanese use foreing words in creative works all the time. The more unpronounceable for them the better (I jest, of course, but only a little).

Even weirder to see someone try to rewrite history as if weebs aren’t out there who know the truth :P

Yeah, seriously. As somebody who went to a lot of anime conventions in the 2000's, it feels really weird to see what was just common cultural knowledge being treated like it’s some kind of esoteric secret.

I’ve got to be honest, I feel like the major problem here is actually the copyright claim - we’ve hit the point where even investigative journalism (which is basically what this is) is easily wiped away by copyright. The DMCA and other related laws have so much to answer for it defies belief, along with the companies

the name of the song has the word “Dansen” in it, it’s clearly not originally from Japan
