Bob and Louise Belcher

I hate the phrase "happens to be" when discussing or introducing an othered person, be they gay, black, or extraterrestrial. It's meant to soften the blow, but what it really connotes is there is a person here despite this particular flaw. Can we just agree to say "is" and remove the connotation?
