Last year, the city of Austin enacted a no cell phone use while driving law and had officers riding in city buses so they could look down into cars and see people using their phones. Then they’d radio it in to a patrol officer who’d pull the car over and ticket the driver.

Yeah that sucks that the law is written such that either an officer or judge can decide what constitutes a “reasonable and proper speed”. Write or call your representative to change it!

Grease and yoga positions? I thought we were asking “will it baby?” not “can I make a baby in it?”

In Texas, we have the same law, but it is specified that you must slow down 20 mph under the speed limit or to 25 mph, whichever is faster, if you can’t move out of your lane. Does the Georgia law specify how much you need to slow down? If so, and this guy didn’t slow down enough, then I 100% agree with the judge. If

I was one of those drivers back in high school when I had a 98 chevy pickup. Inspection sticker was expired by about 2+ yrs. Unfortunately for me, once your inspection is expired more than 90 days, there’s no option for the $10 “fix it” ticket, it’s $180.

Occasionally if I pull up next to one of these guys at a stoplight, I’ll roll down my window and politely let them know that their trailer must have fallen off a few blocks back

Exactly this. I was pulled over once for going 72 in a 65 and did all of the above mentioned things during the encounter. When the officer returned with my ticket, he said “did I say 72? I meant 71". Five minutes down the road, my girlfriend said “that’s nice, he just saved you 50 bucks”. The fee for 0-11 over was

In writing, a period generally signifies the end of a thought. When reading written work, a period is often when the reader pauses to take a breath.

And now speed kills

Kids don’t ride bicycles at 70 mph on the highway. Hitting a pedestrian on a bicycle will most likely not kill them. The comparison isn’t valid.

We’re arguing about different points here. You’re saying that 12 year olds have the physical skills to drive and operate heavy machinery. I agree. I disagree that they have the mental capacity to drive safely on public roads with other cars, pedestrians, bikers, animals, etc...

Fear wears off. It doesn’t teach responsibility or decision making. It’s just fear and wears off. Put those 16 year olds on a skid pad and let them feel a spin and they’ll learn how to make decisions properly with machinery.

I never said that they couldn’t drive. I’m sure all the fine and gross motors skills necessary to physically operate a vehicle are well developed by 12 years old. What I said was that their risk-analysis and decision making hasn’t fully developed, so while they are fully capable of physically driving a car, many would

No, it’s not well developed because that part of the brain literally hasn’t fully developed yet. 12 year old children raised “the way things were” still don’t have fully developed brains.

I’ve noticed the same exact thing on I-35 between San Antonio and Austin. Everybody has to get to the far left because it’s the “fast” lane, so it backs up a bit and slows down. Meanwhile the far right lane is wide open.

I see this every day on my commute. A whole line of cars will merge onto the freeway at 5-10 under the speed limit, and then immediately switch one or two lanes to the left. Meanwhile, I accelerate to the speed limit and pass them all on the right in the lane that they conveniently left open for me!

I’ve heard of one, supposed to be very fast, nigh-uncatchable...The Black Pearl

Probably not...100 octane fuel isn’t any less energy dense so the injection quantities and pressures are likely almost identical to pump gas

Where are you located? I have a 2012 Silverado 4x4 that I plan to sell within the next month...

Exactly! Engineers designed those turns so that fully loaded big rigs could take them at the posted speed limit, you don’t need to slow down to do the same thing in your Corolla
