Is there already or can there be an article about curbing your holiday spending? Like, convincing your family to do secret santa so everyone saves money (what I did this year) or how to come up with inexpensive gift ideas. I would be much interested.

Slates political gabfest anyone?

In my apartment complex, if you leave for Christmas or something, you are under no circumstances allowed to turn off your thermostat. They say it will freeze and break your pipes. Check with landlords before doing this tip. I would say "turn down your thermostat".

Hulu, on my iPad, on my treadmill. That's all I do.

Thanks for joining us Darya. My worst issue is after work when I feel worn down. My will power has been exhausted by a tough job and I just eat everything in the house. Not even bad foods, just whole grain bread, jams, cheese and crackers, pita and guacamole, anything comforting. I can't bring myself to eat raw

This may be way off for you, but I do know men who knit and crochet. It's something you can do when traveling, on planes, and in airports. Also, yarn shops around the world are generally open to people just coming in to knit, so you meet all sorts of people that way. But otherwise, I agree with the other folks,

Wait, what? I remember filling out fafsa stuff just a couple years ago and it required a completed tax form from the prior year. That's why for 2014/2015 school year I would fill out my fafsa in February 2014 when I had completed my 2013 tax return. Has it changed? Or are you just talking about assistance for spring

United States congress person! Or do you just have to be stupid for that one?

Thanks Melanie! I was starting to think lifehacker would never cover women's fit for clothing. I've only seen stuff for guys so far. Keep up the good work!

I got $60 off a kindle yesterday and the ad said it lasted till the 30th, although amazon made it sound like the discount varied in amount by person.

Currently the research on texting and driving has been done in a lab with a simulator, and the results are pretty conclusive. But I would be interested to see the number of accidents which included texting while driving by state next to this map of what the fines are. Is the threat of a fine enough of a deterrent? So

I know Lifehacker has some female writers. Get them on this!

I dono. I live in a smallish town and just about every mom and pop shop uses Square. I can think of at least 4 places just off the top of my head.

Even if they work, sometimes they don't work as well. I bought a cheap plug in for my iPhone 4S and found that the voltage it would carry was much lower than the apple version. So my phone would charge much more slowly and my iPad wouldn't charge at all. It was just a 30 pin to USB cable too, no brick.

Exactly! They all have things that are awesome about them. My friends are sad that it's almost winter, but it's ski season! Every season has something good about it.

It's interesting because I feel like we went through all of these things before we got married. But maybe it's because I've only been married a year? But I really didn't feel like anything changed after the wedding. Or maybe we just fit better than most couples? It just always seems comfortable. And when there is a

I would agree. Repeating what someone said back to them needs to be done as paraphrasing. Not parroting. And they need to say more than just small talk. Unless you're really looking for more detail. If someone says "I had a horrible weekend." I might ask "What made your weekend horrible?" but I feel like that adds,

As a person who worked for a depression help hotline, let me say that this is a tactic that we were taught to use, HOWEVER, it's not just parroting. So if a person who has a large problem comes to you, and gives you a lot of information, you are taught to summarize what's going on to try and understand the main point,

How about how to save on 20k a year. Is that possible? Mostly I save a little each month for tuition. But it's not easy.

Right now, evernote on an iPad. But I've done paper and pencil, laptop and One Note (my favorite), laptop and Evernote, lots of things. I think it depends on what works best for you.
