Same for everyone who complains that the instructions in the technical leave out something crucial. That’s the point!

Maybe a TV series, then. I don’t think it’s unfilmable, you just have to figure out how to translate Leto II’s interior monologues into something exterior. I’m thinking deep dives into Other Memory.

The show is a remarkable mix of things done exceptionally well (most noticeably, the special effects, set design and cinematography)

Son, this show has NOTHING to do with the novels. This is another “I, Robot” of Asimov adaptions.

Also speaking of Dune, what was the significance of Hugo’s eyes briefly flashing blue as he interrogated Phara? Ah heck. It was probably nothing.

The Galactic Empire with a citywide planet for a capital has become somewhat familiar, due to Star Wars and Coruscant if nothing else, but I don’t think psychohistory has really been explored much since Foundation. Yes, there was an episode of Deep Space 9 with something similar, but I think it’s still a pretty obscure

Yeah, the clone dynasty is not only a great way to ensure continuity across time jumps for a TV audience, it also fits with Asimov’s themes. The stagnation of having literally no new blood on the throne for centuries would undoubtably contribute to the decline and fall of the Empire.

I’m in favor of retcons. Also recons.

I would really like to see an adaptation of Heretics and Chapterhouse, and then have someone who is not Brian Herbert or Kevin Anderson finish the trilogy.

This is an old, uninteresting argument that misses the point of the book by a mile (or a parsec, if we have to be sci-fi about it).

It seemed to me that Villeneuve was working with an idea that non-Earth-like planets would produce distinct breeds of humans...

Eh. I sort of like Heretics and Chapterhouse.

In Dune, the Baron’s homosexuality and corpulence are both supposed to heighten his villainy, so that book is definitely homo- (and fat-) phobic. The Baron is the only male heterosexual in all 6 books, if I recall correctly.

Wait, there’s a David Lynch adaptation of Guns, Germs, and Steel?

It’s manipulative for the 45-65 audience that this seems to be directed at.

What’s really strange is that there are only three faculty under 50, and only one assistant professor. It’s like they founded the department in 1975, hired a bunch of guys straight out of grad school, and nobody left, retired, or died.

Sicario is my least favorite of his movies. It’s well directed, but the script didn’t make a lot of sense to me.

Yup. I think the point was to show us the limits of Lasso’s “I don’t care so much about wins and losses” coaching style.

It is.

I was wondering who did that song. Yeah, I can do without it. Luckily it’s a very short clip.
