If by “The Star Trek Formula” you mean the space procedural TOS format, then I would agree with you. But even TNG started busting out of that, and some fans felt that was NOT STAR TREK. As I noted in a comment on another article recently, back in the day I had an argument with someone on the discussion boards about

I’m watching Enterprise for the first time, into S4. I don’t know what “redeemed over time” means, but it’s definitely the worst of the live action series. Not that it’s bad, but it’s unremittingly beige. In a little over three seasons, there is one standout episode that I would rank with the best of all time, a few

Well, they’re in a bubble, so it should be safe.

And how did Tic get to wherever Lyta went without a car? I love this show to death, but it does not have a strong grasp on space and time.

Yes.

I just assumed that’s what white soldiers looked like in the 19th century.

To take this as “she’s dead”, like the reviewer did, one must be under the influence of very potent hallucinogens.

Yeah, I would have completely missed those two critical points without Joelle. Also apparently I missed Frieda Kahlo making out with Josephine Baker.

the warrior she became fighting the white Confederate soldiers

Maybe. We watched it on Friday and it wasn’t there.

Um, is it? Because we didn’t see it.

I wish I could time travel back to 2014!

Well, it worked for North Korea and Cuba.

Perhaps, but that has nothing to do with your initial post. China is not going to fall apart politically if Western filmmakers abstain from pandering to the CCP.

Since China is getting stronger while the US tears itself apart, I’m not sure who you think is in a position to “let” China fall apart. Or, for that matter, what any of this has to do with the article.

Reality: It is the US that is falling apart, culturally and politically.

I also think that it’s not a coincidence that this episode, which gives us a strong clue that Christina and Crane are the same person, also gave us an actual intersex person in Yahima. “Two-spirited”.... I think that formulation will be important.

How is this not a story about comic books? The characters are all big nerds of one stripe or the other. Tic doesn’t just read Lovecraft; he and Leti were in a science fiction book club as kids. Diana is writing a comic book.

We really don’t know what gender Yahima was asigned at birth, or even what gender norms Yahima’s culture employs, for that matter.

Guess Tree got stuck in Boston, although i thought he was gonna get dropped off in Philly? A little confusing. Guess he was mainly there to plant the seed that Montrose is gay.
