 Correct. Disco McCoy is best.

Setting aside the right-wing’s victim complex, the notion of a major broadcast network as a “liberal space” is patently absurd.

I think the reviewers of the show are doing a disservice to fans for focusing so much on the social justice/body acceptance asspect as some people are automatically turned off by that kind of talk and discard it.

I’d have to say that NPR out-snarked the AV Club, which is kind of sobering.

I can’t think of many episodes where Kirk actually seduces a woman for fun. Most of the time he’s just using his sex appeal tactically, for example to confuse aliens by manipulating their unfamiliar human feelings.

Correction: “But Colbert, through talent and hard work and a great deal of luck (particularly the luck of being born a white man in America), has become a rich and famous entertainer.”

I can’t tell you whether Colbert is on your side or not. but if you are seriously jealous that Colbert got to party with Obama and McCartney, if you think he was “rubbing it in your face”, then I think you might be a little over-sensitive.

Since Obama is no longer President, he no longer needs to be “held to account”.  I’m not sure why you’re objecting to Colbert remembering Obama’s personal side.

And do you know who genuinely was a great socially-progressive President?

I’m sure I’ll get around to seeing Hamilton some day but I’ll never see it with Miranda.

I am also old. I saw him back in the 80s, and recently. He was amazing both times. If anything, he’s getting better with age.

On the contrary, I think most Brits would be quite happy to see an American spit-roast their politicians, a group only slightly less pathetic than our own.

Amen to that!

Wouldn’t it be weird and completely incongruous with the rest of the franchise to have a Tarantino-directed R-rated movie in the middle of the run?

Underneath the violence and the pop culture references, Tarantino is a great storyteller. Look at Pulp Fiction. Individually, the stories aren’t that interesting, but he puts them together in a way that makes them into a great movie. And storytelling is what the Star Trek movies have been sorely lacking.

That’s exactly my point. Nobody cares whether an actor’s ethnicity matches the role. It’s called “acting”.

It’s not “punishing white people”. White people still get most of the choice roles.

What I think this illustrates is that people don’t care very much about the ethnicity/ancestry of the actors playing characters, unless the character has previously been played by someone of the “correct” ancestry, and then a white person gets the role in a remake or whatever.

Actually, it’s “They’re actors!” The biological daughters of the character that an actor plays do not have to be played by his biological daughters. Period. End of story.

Agreed. In fact, I generally prefer Elvis’ later work. Not that I don’t like This Year’s Model, but King of America and Blood and Chocolate are peerless records. Brutal Youth, Imperial Bedroom, Juliet Letters, Spike, and The Delivery Man are all great albums, and let’s not forget Painted From Memory. The man is
