The songs in this series are very strong and emotionally charged. I’ve always loved the series since my introduction with FF7 in 5th grade for me. Me and my childhood best friend rented the game and named Cloud and Barret after us in the game. It just felt so epic and way cooler than anything else out there.

Peter needs to write more articles on Kotaku. Such good read.

Fun fact: You can totally skip Sabin in the world of Ruin. I’m not sure how possible it is without cheats, but the game is programmed that it will let you beat it with only Celes, Edgar, and Sabin.

Gawd, still the best story in the series. I’m not ashamed to admit reading this gave me little emotional flashbacks to my first playthrough. Your deconstruction was beautiful and timely.

Love this article. FFVI will always be the top of my list for many of reasons you said but even now, decades later, that soundtrack. It has many tracks that stand on their own, Johnny C Bad, Mog’s theme to name a couple. But the way the way it helped tell the story was amazing. As you mentioned, the bleak, haunting

FFVII is definitely deeper, at least in the sense of interactions. VIII, like a lot of games, has certain hidden stat stuff, but it doesn’t even matter. It’s incredibly easy to max your stats from junctions, and even easier to decimate the enemy, so why even bother? (side note: The GF stat stuff is likely the game

I remember once when I was a kid, probably 13-14, Dad told me if I didn’t go mow the lawn I was grounded and he didn’t want to hear any excuses (He’d been telling me to do it all week and I’d been putting it off). Mowed one pass and the mower ran out of gas. There was maybe a pint of gas left in the can in the garage,

Poor Pope Leo X. You could have been known by this portrait.

A star for Project Farm. I’d recommend AvE, too: tearing down brand-new stuff with analysis of materials, engineering, construction, etc. Plus his patter is entertaining as hell and it’s easy to accidentally learn things!

Prouder than yours, probably.

you just described the “ProjectFarm” channel on youtube. He puts all sorts of stuff into lawn mower engines to see the results. He measures compression before and after and shows what the valves look like afterward. Actual Science and results.

Sugar isn’t all that soluble in gasoline. The fuel filter should strain most of it (I would think). That said, I sure as hell wouldn’t test it. Another commenter, one with a fantastic username, posted a video of someone testing this on a lawnmower engine. It did leave a residue, so who knows what granulated sugar

Most modern cargo/cruise ships can be operated from a single station. If there is a “steering wheel” it’s often no bigger than a hockey puck. The giant spoked wheels of yore are long gone.

Look, no matter if you are talking about a starship or a modern day naval ship, there is only one active helm location at any one time. At the helm, you can control the engines and the course of the vessel. All the other crew functions include lookouts, system monitors, navigation (for complex courses), engine room

“Somehow, a new player-created holiday became a story about conflict, betrayal and the disappearance of an entire civilization.”

So, they invented Thanksgiving?

Cosmetics: seriously, no one really cares about this other than people looking for something to be pissed about

If you consider this spoilery, then I would strongly urge you away from our feature, “A THING HAPPENS FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER THING THAT MAY BE POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE”

I just finished the expansion last night. I started it at level 50, so I can’t speak to what it’s like relative to the rest of the game at the “appropriate level,” but it was a ton of fun and a LOT more challenging than any of the regular content. The final boss fight was extremely difficult and lengthy and a great

Totally agree with you Zero Dawn does every thing right. I am thinking I may put a second play through in on hard difficulty during the Holidays.

Yeah I admit I kind of read this article half checked out because it cited Horizon Zero Dawn as a PROBLEM game in the beginning. I agree with what’s being said but Horizon tries its best to buck a lot of the problems with Open World games and to me both it AND BotW are going to be major influences into the right
