#BanMen2017

Yeah, this is why it feels like the way this is written up here is bad. She certainly doesn’t “lack the authority”, she’s just choosing to wield it to deny/delegitimate/erase victims of genocide.

This bit seems a little irresponsible: “Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar’s civilian leader and a winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, lacks the authority to fully address the situation—though a Human Rights Watch spokesman asserted that she has allowed herself to be misled about what’s really going on”

I feel personally attacked.

ffs, this is not cultural appropriation. your soccer fan club is not a culture. even if it was, cultural appropriation is like racism— you can’t do it against groups that don’t suffer from marginalization, discrimination, oppression, etc.

thanks for the awards show last night (and the open bar!), it was fun and like, man, i’ve been reading all you guys for so many years, it was cool to see you existing as people.

(kinja wasn’t accepting my accompanying gif, booooo)

over the holiday weekend, mom and i both were casually speculating that Matt Lauer would be the next to fall. just based on long history of rumors, general known dickishness, and our own sense of him (from afar) as predatory/manipulative. cackling forever that our feminine powers of prophecy brought this about so

;) is the comic sans of our time. everything that contains ;) should be immediately mocked and then promptly ignored. so good work here.

I’m very aware of the routinized workplace sexual harassment, barriers to working outside the home, everyday sexism, and overt misogyny that my female relatives grew up with. I don’t think women were so much “sheltered” from these things as they were completely desensitized and normalized to them. I guess the point is

Absolutely! Thanks for this, that “frustrated sadness” is exactly what I mean when I say that it is tough to hear women who raised you criticize women public figures by basically saying, in so many words, that they are asking for it simply by being in public.

Amazing to hear from all my friends that all of us heard some variant of “what else do women expect?” from older female relatives over Thanksgiving. Many of us were genuinely shocked that our aunts, grandmothers, & mothers think that this is a “grey area”, but I’d venture that to say that that surprise is part of the

Selena must have a platinum vagine. Best explanation I’ve got at this point for the Biebs’ unwavering obsession.

honest question: who is this new T Swift album for? what’s the target demo here? i can’t figure it out.

Now playing

Am I the only person here taking umbridge with the dismissal of Dawes? Great band! Cute and chill dudes! Fun live! They tour constantly and play loads of smaller places that most other bands overlook, which I find really endearing (shout out to the Dawes shows in Taos NM, Madison WI, and Highlands NC)

Agree, this is very confusing and concerning. What mean, indeed. And, “put the tray between her legs”? Like...if she’s sitting on a lounge chair, they would put it at the bottom of the chair so she’d have to spread her legs open on either side to sit up and eat? I’m really confused by a lot of the word choice/sentence

The problem does not lie with people who choose to get PhDs. In so many cases, they’re only doing what their undergraduate advisors and professional mentors have encouraged them to do, or at the very least did not discourage them from. So don’t rant about English PhD students or whatever. The entire system pushed them

This is a lot, buddy. Your hyperawareness of perceived vulnerability must be really stressful for you. What a fun trait!

“they wanted to do it because...uh....y’know....black men were being killed and there were no repercussions. This has to be damaging, I think.”
