SUPER rude as a guest sometimes. He went on Politically Reactive and kind of blew off the fact that he didn’t remember Hari, who had once *co-hosted a show with him*. It was the most awkward interview they’ve ever done; usually the conversation flows nicely, but this one was seriously off.

Sexual comments in the workplace are never harmless, PARTICULARLY when they’re directed at someone specific in the workplace.

This is how “ed reform” works, guys. Look at all of the fricking hype around “miracle” charters, who basically just whittle down until they have the top 10 kids in a class, and throw the rest back to public school (who even then have to cherry-pick results to make themselves look good). But they still get article

They are. They created this inequality, extremely deliberately. They only take black kids that are perfect in every way (while taking in mediocre white kids with alumni parents). This was a path to elite colleges for these kids, and many of them made it through. This is *absolutely* something white institutions need

No, it’s not reaching. Dude cultivated a profile- down to fricking bow ties and glasses- to make students look like insanely perfect black unicorns. That’s what these colleges are looking for. Rich white people can be mediocre, poorer white people have to be very good, and black/brown people have to be mythical

YUP YUP YUP.

Here’s the thing, though: a lot of them (not all of them, but a solid percentage) DID stay in the ivies, and did pretty well with their lives.

The answer is that reformy schools aren’t looked at critically by ANYONE unless parents go to the media with complaints. They publish PR, and the government and media lap it up. Meanwhile, public schools don’t publish PR (we’re too busy spending $ on, you know, educating students), so we’re trashed by pretty much

WAY TOO MANY badly filmed fight scenes, men!

I’m at the point where all I can see in straight man writing is their sexism, too. Whenever a woman shows up, she’s so obviously just a fantasty fill-in that it’s kind of obscene. Just always with the description of the tits, and the incredible NEED for the main character, who so often feels like a fill-in for the

YUP. I’ve read a lot of sex scenes because romance novels are my relaxing break reads, and they’re much better than the highly-acclaimed authors on this page.

Yeah, I was hoping it would be something like that. Makes sense why they targeted a different part of it for derision.

I’ve been meaning to read more Murakami because I liked his short story on LeVar Burton Reads and I’ve heard he’s great. Now I’m wondering about that goal...

YUP. I mean, it could totally be a book from a terrible person’s POV. That’s fine. But taken out of context, this seems...TERRIBLE.

But they’re always FASCINATED by older chubby man bodies.

How old are you? I’m not saying the publication was perfect, but...she’s a kid (or at least was when it all started). Like, the age of my students-level-kid. What she did was amazing, and I’m not surprised there have been missteps.

I get that *now* (but thank you for laying it out clearly for those who might have been confused by my comment). It’s just, I can see how that could be an appealing idea to non-racists, non-crazy people, unlike virtually any of the current Republican agenda.

Right, but NONE of the billionaires (or even millionaires) are actually sitting on a pile of cash. They still suck up money and don’t spit it back out (a blogger I like called them blood clots in the money circulatory system and I like that a lot).

I came across it as a teenager while cleaning out my grandmother’s attic. It was FASCINATING to me, both the sexploits (I was a teenager; it seemed racy at the time, especially the description of the orgy, which totally influenced how I still imagine orgies go), and the feminist angle where they talk about how many

The smaller text on the print at at least made the connection to service, and even mentioned the dudes working for the airline.
