At the beginning of the birth process, you get the “mucus plug” that comes out of your cervix. It’s gross and strange, but perfectly healthy.

Nationally regulating midwives is a great idea. In my state, they’re NPs and really just, like, kinda crunchy (and cheap) OBs, as long as nothing goes wrong. If something goes wrong (or might go wrong) they call in an OB without hesitation.

You’re conflating freebirth crazies with midwife/homebirth people. It depends on the state whether midwives have to be certified. Mine was an NP, and only delivered in the hospital.

This is an explicitly no-midwife birth, but YES, having access to medical interventions (and a hospital that knows when to really use them) is super important.
