Don’t worry! It DOES get better!

Yup- How the hell is spanking a long-term plan? What are you going to do when they’re a teenager and bigger/stronger than you (because teens WILL be bigger/stronger than you). What are teachers, who cannot (and don’t want to) hit kids going to do when your kid ONLY responds to hitting as a punishment?

I’m on the fence about time-outs, but they don’t really work for my toddler. The things that DO work:

It’s TERRIBLE to hit a little kid, but hitting a teenager is just asking them to assault you. You are 100% right that violence begets violence.

Dealing with toddler tantrums is “easy” (depending on your tolerance for screaming):

Seriously! There are lots of parenting books out there, but they conflict SO MUCH. We need a “List of ideas that work for misbehaving kids” campaign just as badly as we need those signs all over the hospital about putting your baby on their back so they don’t get SIDS.

I’m just confused, then, why Iggy Azalea is the apt comparison, when hers was DEFINITELY a race/class thing.

Well, it’s pretty complicated, but basically, yes? There are a few different types of white Southerner (the aristocrats, the hillbillies, and the ranchers are all VERY different), and they each have their own unique relationship with each group of Northerners (the Northeasterners and Midwesterners are all also VERY

Not arguing, just confused here.

None of this makes any sense in response to my post?

I can see that— that was kind of my question. I was wondering why Iggy Azaela (profiting by imitating historically oppressed) was the apt comparison instead of Taylor Swift (profiting by imitating historically...not oppressed).

I mean, that’s a huge part of the definition of “region”, so I got that part, but I’m just wondering why the apt comparison here is Iggy Azaelea (profiting by imitating historically oppressed people) and not Taylor Swift (profiting by imitating a fairly equal culture- Northern White vs. Southern White).

Now playing

SO, it’s a rectangle/square thing; Not everyone who humps the flag is fascist, but all fascists hump a flag.

Politics, to Republicans (and many wealthy white people in general), is like fancy football. It’s got all the fun and none of the real-world consequences (for them) of sports, and just like gambling on sports, sometimes you make money on it!

I’m assuming here that the Andalusian vs. Catalonian accent is a racial/class thing, and not just regional? Because I’m thinking of those like Taylor Swift and other country/pop stars who don’t have southern accents in real life who put one on when singing country, but it’s not really an issue, because it’s white

Anyone that didn’t answer with something Disney is probably lying. Or over 100 years old, and thus didn’t have Disney soundtracks as a kid.

I’m here to defend the Titanic soundtrack and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

People’s hatred of her *is* to a great extent about misogyny. She was vilified from day 1 (husband’s first campaign) on EXTREMELY sexist grounds.

I think it’s a response to more industry talk and influence; I agree with you to a great extent, but it’s both a feminist and pop culture issue if Antonoff is getting more credit than he deserves within the industry.

Our president became current-times famous, and thought of as a good businessman (instead of mostly as a miserable failure/joke punchline) literally because of a reality show.
