It didn’t jump out at me immediately, mainly because I was still thinking of Dumbledore as the far-off teacher figure. But after she said that, I thought about how far Dumbledore betrayed his own conscience and family for Grindlewald, and it became immediately clear that yup, it would be love/infatuation that would

I’m surprised so many think the revalation that Dumbledore was gay rings hollow; it makes total sense with the books, and the main problem was that it wasn’t made more explicit, as it would be with a straight character that fell in love with an evil dude (hi, Bellatrix).

I think letting other people play in the sandbox but STAYING AWAY from the main characters of the original books is actually a great way to go; you don’t have to risk damaging characters (or their perceptions in people’s minds), but there are *lots* of cool things that you can do in Star Wars and HP universes. I

Yup. I actually really liked Fantastic Beasts as a way to play in the universe’s sandbox without screwing up the original 7. I’m kinda dreading the new movie, which I both want to and don’t want to see. I’m completely avoiding Cursed Child because it sounds like they mess with the characters too much.

Reader response isn’t wrong; we *do* create worlds in conjunction with the authors’ worlds. It’s just a bad standpoint for criticism, since it’s so nebulous. Criticism works best when you apply something firm (theories) to the elastic world created between a book and a reader, and you see what comes out.

He wasn’t a father figure; he was a teacher. One who specifically kept Harry at arms’ length because he was constantly trying to figure out when/how Harry would have to die.

In my capacity as a teacher, my sexuality is pretty unimportant. It’s something we kind of put aside for the daytime, because we’re dealing with kids.

Agreed on author and fans (holy crap definitely the fans), but it is the job of critics to take things seriously and investigate their meaning. It’s just more widely read when it’s about something fun like Harry Potter.

I think she has unprecedented control over these movies, as far as author control goes. Not that she had complete control (or that she should), but she is a super powerful person in publishing AND Hollywood now.

Agreed- less funny, more straight criticism. This is a regular opinion piece with a couple “eating kids” jokes thrown in, mostly up top.

I mean, it’s possible that she angered the Chinese government in a totally unrelated way, and this is just the story they’re making her tell. I trust very few parts of this story.

Look at you cable people, making me feel nostalgic for a group of shows I’ve been hearing about for 25 years. I JUST WANTED NICK; WAS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK? ALSO MTV LATER ON.

Me too! I didn’t have a farm, but we did take care of chickens for some neighbors who both liked having chickens and going on vacations.

No. Chillis might be the worst restaurant in America.

She probably shouldn’t have been wearing that blindfold if she didn’t want to be assaulted. I bet she can’t even describe the room where this happened!

I watch them, but I’d also be super duper happy to see him made fun of for an hour or six (if it’s a miniseries).

It had its day! We have copies of it! We don’t need to do it again!

Ah, that, I can answer: it’s his annoying fucking face.

So, fashion that goes down the runway doesn’t have to be *for* anyone. In that I will defend him. It’s about making an artistic statement about the direction of the brand. The problem here is that (1) it’s NOTHING like way the brand was under the last people, and (2) it’s old shit that’s been done.

Nope- Katie. There are 10,000 Katies in my generation.
