The pronoun switching is because of a typo I’m pretty sure. It’s supposed to read “As cute as Klara is—and she’s so cute with that puffy coat and bow on her head—I cannot wait to grind Avery into the dust.” 

He’s probably referring to Lovecraft’s racism, which is pretty evident in a lot of his stories.
