Agreed. Perhaps could be interesting if there were an automatic starring after X number of upvotes over time, if keeping on top of commenters to move out of greys is difficult for moderators. I have been here for 3 years now, have had many upvotes, but will be in the greys come the change....

Before, anyone could post on groupthink. Now, you cannot post unless they have "chosen" you to post. Everyone says it is super easy to do so if you routinely go to/comment on GT posts. However, while I do that and find GT to be a great place to hang out, there have been times I would like to post my own thing to GT

First of all, you guys have done an amazing job blocking that crap. I come on here EVERY DAY multiple times a day and I havent seen any. Kudos to you guys for keeping that shit in check.

I vote for a "report" button that auto-hides the comment when a certain threshold is reached. So, if one person reports you, comment stays visible. 10 people? Your comment goes into moderation to be deleted or reinstated by the mod. Still puts a burden on the mod, but also prevents users from spite-hiding comments.

I read Jez regularly and I haven't encountered any of these gifs either.

Kinja is horrible and I hate it, but kudos to you guys for being so quick to get rid of that garbage when it pops up. I've yet to have to see one of these gifs since the Jezebel mods are so fast at removing them.

Slate's commenting system (Livefyre) has issues, but it only allows pictures/gifs from certain websites to be posted in comments. Maybe something like that? At least for awhile. Not that that is a fix either. But maybe a deterrent for the a-holes that post the porn.

A "report" option would also help a lot, I think. The only way to get rid of those things is if they are dismissable, which is only possible if they respond individually to our posts, which they often don't. I have no idea how programming for things like Kinja works, but my kingdom for a report button, please.

I hope Gawker HQ gets their heads out of their collective asses about this. It's not okay. Luckily, I haven't seen any of these images, but this is the exact same reason why the PostSecret app had to be shut down. People were taking advantage of the anonymity and posting the same kind of images.

Yeah, Gawker wishes it was TMZ

Speaking as somebody with a burner account, my ability to post without tracking my IP address doesn't trump Gawker's responsibility to serve its readers., and its readers don't deserve to be flooded with violent rape imagery.

Is there any particular reason why burner accounts can't have certain HTML tags turned off so

Sorry, but Gawker did this to itself by instituting The Platform That Cannot Be Criticized - Kinja.

Truth. Just look at all the backlash Jessica Valenti got for asking a very simple, straightforward question about tampons! That was literally a simple request for information and she got so much shit for it.

To me, it seems this is really indicative of the way in which it's so much harder to exist as a woman on the Internet — women have to deal with so much shit, and so much of the stuff done to ~make the 'net free for everyone~ doesn't take that fact into account at all. There was an op-ed in the Guardian about that this

No, and fuck you. Jezebel should be able to post articles about whatever they damn well please without having to deal with rape gifs and gore porn and whatever the fuck else. Those are being used as a silencing tool, and your comment is no better.

Yeah, I don't get that either. Isn't there another vehicle for anonymous tips that would allow the comments section to have recorded IP addresses?

But what if someone wants to leave an anonymous tip as to whether Jay and Beyoncé are getting a divorce?!! Clearly that takes priority over Jezebel's readership not being subjected to images of women in sexual and disturbingly violent situations while sipping our morning coffee.

That was a Gawker article, idiot.

And why do you want people to send in tips on a public Comment system? Don't we have e-mail for that sort of thing?

What bothers me about this is that we don't record IP addresses so as to protect these burner accounts for people who might want to tip us anonymously about a story. So the company is seemingly placing a priority on making these hypothetical tipsters feel safe over the safety of the actual real live women who write
