Unpopular Opinion Gets The Ban-Hammer

This is my dad mobile. It’s the 4th GTI I’ve owned. Plenty of room for my wife and son, plenty of room to haul stuff, great in snow, extremely fun to drive, great on gas. Great tech, very safe, and has air vents in the back to keep my son comfortable. I’ve owned a lot of cars, nothing has come close to the pure joy of

Good.

I have worked for the IAM 751 machinists union for Boeing. Our pay was no higher than the South Carolina workers (when based on cost of living at that locale), our benefits weren’t any different. And every 3 or 4 years the IAM would come in demanding something and Boeing would be like “well okay, if you guys want this

A lack of union presence is one of the primary reasons that we have a thriving auto industry here in the southeast. I am a native Chattanoogan and still currently live here. I say good job to the VW employees who were informed enough and smart enough to keep the UAW out of our city.

Unions != Good for labor.
This is a really poorly written article, you state how corrupt the UAW is but at the end you say it is an “unfortunate setback for labor in the US”. I have worked under two unions and they were both so incredibly corrupt, it is possible that these employees just didn’t want to trade what they

Good, the UAW is a sleazy and corrupt mess. I hope they get ripped by the Gov’t for essentially mob practices. Also, nice bias in the article there, “But for now, it’s another unfortunate setback for labor in the U.S., although I have to wonder if any of the UAW leaders caught embezzling in recent years actually give

“unfortunate setback for labor in the US”. They all still have good paying jobs with benefits. I would imagine if they Unionized and VW closed the plant or reduced the shifts, it would probably be worse for labor in America.

I’m surprised their top shelf marketing has failed to move the metal.

Yep, true. I’m imagining some 75-year-old guy saying “I only drive a standard!” while he grinds his way across I-70 in Colorado towing a $300k trailer with granite countertops.

All Sixties muscle cars are cool--regardless of manufacturer.  The reactions make the upkeep worth it, right?

First thought: Citroën 2CV, but that thing is effectively available new already.

Not as if I’m bigoted, so twist my arm:

Reality is so fucking weird right now.

Let me drop a little lawyer on you:

Q: You’re 70 now?

A: That’s correct

Q: So, we’re to believe you’re a gentle-driving retiree, is that it?

A: Why, yes, sonny, that’s right.

NEEDS MOAR ENGINES!

That actually looks pretty good. Interior looks great too.

It reminds me a lot of the GLK. A bit boxier and more truckish, but I think it works. I really liked the refreshed GLK. A small 3 row suv is underrated.

Spots on the sidewalk. The horror.

Places with lots of people get dirty.
