American troops have done criminal acts but hardly on the scale you portray. No Gun Ri turned out to be false. The one alleged GI who said he participated turned out to be lying. All of Vietnam was a massacre really? Well the Aussies played their part at Long Tan taking the Odd Angry Shot with a Walk In The Light

Bridgeport is like Donner Party country. The winter can be very tough in the High Sierras. Yes Alaska, Wisconsin, etc do have training bases. I can't recall the history of why the base was built there but probably has to do with the practicality of a facility that has year round training and proximity to Camp

I’m not saying it wasn’t a loss but it’s not as simple as you portrayed. It wasn’t the Moon of Endor with Ewoks defeating the Empire with logs and spears. The US military was all out of the country at that time and the Embassy Marines were the last military presence. The helicopters pushed off the ships were all ARVN

Not really true. The Viet Cong were wiped out. The North Vietnamese army was heavily equipped with Russian tanks and artillery. Were beaten back in 1972 by American air power alone and then allowed to overrun the RVN in 1975 for political reasons.

No the Viet Cong aka the man in the black pajamas were primarily defeated after Tet Offensive of 68. The NVA defeated the RVN after we withdrew military support with overwhelming conventional forces. It was Russian provided tanks that drove through the gates of Saigon in 1975 not poorly equipped guerrilas.

A great movie too!

Surprisingly the US Army had quite a few Cavalry units all the way up to WW2. The last mounted troops would see action at Bataan where the ended up having to eat their mounts.

Oh was just thrown off because the school has been in existence pre-9/11 but I suppose didn't get SOF attention until OEF. Also why people dusted off copies of the 1940 USMC Small Wars Manual that had instructions for use of pack mules and horses.

And I thought they smelled bad on the outside! Ba dum dum. Thank you thank you. Try the veal.

The USMC still has a mule skinner course at Bridgeport CA specifically for mountain/cold weather training.

Dr Edward Tufte posits that PowerPoint slides and the dumbing down of tech info so it could be bulletized contributed to the management decision.

The Poetry of Donald Rumsfeld set to music.

Also UXBs and crashed RAF and Luftwaffe planes from the Blitz!

I used to own what I suspect was the Hermanos Rodriguez Ford Falcon convertible from Repo Man. The front end was all bent and I always had trouble with the motor mounts and xsmn. After seeing that scene again I knew why.

FAB

FAB!

Can't fit the radio in the hatch!
