That’s interesting. The reason the USMC is scrambling due to the SecNav directive to integrate training is the infrastructure is not there. We still use open squad bays (a la Full Metal Jacket) at boot camp. The showers and toilets are all open. Oh well guess we’ll see what happens.

Also I think the number of enlisted using food stamps is greatly exaggerated. If you spend any time dealing with dependapotami then you can spot the few that are seeking government assistance because they’re enabled by the welfare state our military has become all in the name of “taking care of our troops.”

I don’t think any of those jobs are rotational. They’re more due to whoever is in vogue with the SecDef and POTUS at the time. Gen Dunford has been selected after Gen Dempsey and Adm Mullen and Gen Pace.So Marines have been selected twice out of last 4 for Chairman of JCS.

I have a similar background as the first book I can remember reading as a child was about military history.

I thought it was intentional as people have mocked the Corps that way before. I.e. They’re all destined to end up as cannon fodder anyway. I read a funny self-published memoir from Vietnam called 1369 which is the MOS for unlucky cocksucker. It was all written as a bible verse and interchangeably referred to the Corps…

He visited MCRD when I was there and while he liked what he saw he also agreed in one way with you that if he was God he would reform the armed forces into one combined force without separate branches. Although that is in a way just a giant Marine Corps. ;)

Note also very few women are in many of those countries infantry units and the plain truth is none of those countries are expected to get in a serious fight at the high end of the spectrum.

I gave a tour to a Swedish Marine at MCRD years ago and he commented about how they allowed women. But he also said they don't have any special showers or facilities for them. That's Scandinavia for you. Bow chikka bow wow
