I’m a big fan of Bernard Fall and Jean Larteguy. Also the Algerian War was a topic in our professional schools along with the OAS, FLN, etc. They would often show The Battle of Algiers as a teaching aid.

There is another country or two. And surprisingly there are few runways and they’re all separated by large quantities of water.

Well you have to remember that plans are made for worst case scenarios. And in the event of a major conflict you can bet many of those pristine long vulnerable concrete runways will be cratered or slimed.

I’m in the Japanese spouse club too. I think it’s safe to say fanaticism aside culturally surrender was odious even to the common soldier because of what they were taught. So if they didn’t do as they were told and fought to the death then being so terrified of capture led them to commit suicide. Either way you have a

I don’t know how well you know the Japanese people or could even comprehend how the WW2 generation felt. And I think Basil Chamberlain’s observations didn’t apply to the militarized population under Hirohito.

Too slow to edit.

ROK gained a lot.

There’s plenty of evidence of how Japanese civilians would have defended the home islands. Saipan, Tinian, Okinawa all gave indications. The Japanese people accepted surrender because the Emperor told them to bear the unbearable. Had he said otherwise they would have fought to the death. Even after he had recorded the

Pedro doesn’t understand.

Was it Camp David? Probably Site R.

Wasn’t really “botched” since Aguinaldo was captured and the insurrection crushed?

I don’t think this is true. How were the P36s and the P40 pilots who took off in their evening clothes etc able to get up in time? I thought the main issue at Hickam and Wheeler was that the aircraft were parked closely together so they could be more easily guarded from saboteurs. This made them more concentrated

You’re asking a weekend warrior doctor who’s only been in 10 years and still smells like cash sales they’re opinion of the biggest change in warfare???? Cell phones? Obviously not a comm officer because they’d know when you deploy and go to war you go places with no cell service.

Yeah which is why it was kind of funny to watch Waltz With Bashir and see the Israeli military portrayed as a bunch of amateurs. Then again everything might look different from a young soldier’s POV.

So I guess the Marine Corps’ institutional paranoia is well founded considering there are still people who would disband it. Mike Sparks has a follower in you.

It's been performing its mission quite well. Self deployed to Nepal and delivered thousands of pounds of supplies while Army Chinooks were stuck in Alaska waiting for Air Force lift that never came.

There is a small shopping mall in Okinawa made from shipping cans. One lady told me they're pretty hot even though she has AC. Probably could use some better insulation.

Hmm. 1999 maybe?

Actually while they are the smallest branch they provide more combat power per dollar than any other branch. They are only something like 4% of the DoD budget but have much more tooth to tail compared to the others.
