Making Barbie 2 would be a mistake. But a Ken movie all about Ken trying to find himself and figure who he is outside Barbie could be interesting. I don’t know if I’d want the same writers and director back though. Not because I think they'd do a bad job, but because if the whole point if Ken striking out on his,

BOOM! THIS!

Germain being right that Brian sitting out these situations would be out of character as established in the earlier films doesn’t change the fact that he took a fairly misogynistic route in making that point.

How about we just forget about this pedophile completely. Dude was a creep. The franchise needs to drop him like god did.

I assume Germain does not have kids, as reducing the responsibility of parenting young children to ‘babysitting’ is a bit clueless. Maybe Brian is staying with the kids while Mia is doing irresponsible F&F shit so their child won’t be an orphan if it goes wrong.

also he was a pedophile

Aside from the sexism of this piece which has been well covered by others, Paul Walker dated 16 year olds so can we maybe just not?

Recast Brian? I don’t know when this became a taboo option.

This:

I'm fine with them erasing a character played by an actor who liked to be in "relationships" with teenage girls

It’s not too late to delete this article.

I think it’s much more sexist than that. There’s no alternate universe where Paul Walker lived and continued to star in these movies, and Germain is prompted to write an article bemoaning Mia staying home to look after the kids instead of joining up with the rest of the gang on their latest extravaganza of danger.

He’d deceased. What, exactly, are the great alternatives to the way it’s been handled? “Kill” him on-screen, and then have a big fiction funeral for the character, even though the actor who played him as been dead for a decade?

I’m not sure why the author thinks “its insulting, weak, and unmanly to care for kids” is a message the films should be sending. So, it would be fine for Mia to be relegated to off screen child minder because she’s a woman, but its a disservice to manly strong Brian to have that role.

A fascinating exercise in misogyny, Germain.

>Does it make Brian look a little less than heroic that he’s home babysitting while members of his immediate family are risking their lives? Without a doubt.

Brian sitting out the action to be the caretaker of the kids while his wife helps save the world is EXCELLENT positive masculinity rep, yes.

And Paul Walker was a pedophile, so maybe letting his character fade away after he died is okay.

I’m a fan of Tokyo Drift but Lucas Black is a Christian Conservative who has posted anti=trans stuff so I’m ok with him not getting a bigger part in the films

Yeah this. It’s also subtly a good and  “Fast & (and?) Furious” way to show men that it’s ok to be the stay at home parent
