I also always wonder who these anorexia movies are for, as they often push the “beautiful tortured thing girl” stereotype and let me tell you, anorexia sufferers feed off this. These kinds of movies are never cautionary tales, they’re actually very triggering and encouraging.

People can do whatever they want to do, especially for their art, but this strikes me as so dangerous — akin to a heroin addict working with medical professionals to do heroin again after they’ve recovered, “for professional reasons”.

And then, on top of that, the impact of a heightened access to eating disorder imagery potentially serving as catalyst or inspiration for those already with unhealthy relationships to their bodies/body image/eating. Yeah, how do you square the suffering of people who have eating disorders with the fictional portrayal of an eating disorder, which requires losing weight?

I’m struck by the ethical question of having someone lose such extreme amounts of weight for a story about eating disorders, especially given that extreme diets are a risk factor for developing disordered eating.
