“This town is lucky to have black people in it”.

Am I the only person who struggles with cultural appropriation uproar? I thought different cultures mixing and borrowing from each other was the point of living in a diverse society. Is it reasonable to assume that people of different cultures living together would wall off the ability of their culture being used by

I 100% agree. I haven’t spoken to my father in years, and I know he complains to people about how his kids are so mean and don’t care if he dies. He won’t acknowledge that it’s his awful behaviour that has led his family members to cut him off.

Hey, thanks. I’m sorry you had to do that, too. And I’m with you on the sweet relief that comes from the phone not ringing.

I hear this.  I cut off half my family and I regret nothing.  The number of times I have heard “but it’s FAMILY”... good lord.  Just because somebody is related to you doesn’t mean you owe them a sweet g.d. thing, least of all your time.  They can get stuffed.

No, Meghan doesn’t have to do anything regarding her family to make you or anyone else feel better.

Why does she have to defend herself for getting roles? The people who cast should be catching flack more than her. If she thinks the role is right for her and it helps develop her craft - why wouldn’t she take it?

They didn’t have to blackball her, she did a pretty good job of making herself radioactive all on her own. Why would anyone hire an actor who was relentlessly unpleasant even in the runup to that awards season, and is relentlessly crapping all over the people who gave her the opportunity in the first place? There are

I agree with the point you are making via sarcasm, but I think this goes beyond even that point. Diaz was investigated. One of his accusers is even pissed what she said got lumped into MeToo stuff (I’m not sure if her annoyance is fair. Was her original tweet furnished with #metoo?). One of his accusers has been

If MeToo is broadened to be about assholes, then it has lost its true north. The only substantial accusation (every other accusation is of Diaz being a jerk and even those are insubstantial on the jerk spectrum) is that he kissed Clemmons. She refuses to say where.

I actually read the Atlantic article, and it seemed to me his message is knowing whether or not you are trans should be taken seriously and teenagers should not be rushed into physical transitions. I thought it showed the utmost respect for the trans community by stressing how it should not be co-opted by merely

Honestly, can you please for the love of anything explain how anything this guy has written is transphobic or hurts trans people? He is advising caution, using the limited data available and first person accounts, about drugging up of children we do not allow to consent to sex, we do not allow to drive, vote, or

I understand being skeptical of people raising these arguments. I’ve certainly met a fair share of folks who I’d consider to be transphobes who cling to any ‘evidence’ they can find that allows them to further discriminate. I gotta say though, I don’t feel like this journalist in this case is doing anything other than

I started reading this before realizing how long it was, so I’ll have to get back to it later. The rest of this post has nothing to do with your argument or viewpoint, it’s solely about this listserv and the ethics behind it.

So, I guess that’s it. Jesse Singal is drawn to covering trans issues because he is concerned that giving teens hormones “could have a bad ending”

I know people are deeply upset about what Signal writes. But I would point out that as an ally who is not fully up-to-date on all of the debates around trans issues, Signal comes off as quite reasonable in almost all of the screen-quoted conversations. To be clear, I’m not saying he is being reasonable. I don’t know

I started doing trans activism in the late 90s when I was still a teenager. I went to one of the only trans friendly colleges in the early 2000s in the country, and continued to do that activism. I agree with almost everything that Jesse says. The trans activist community (not the trans community itself) has become

so now we are just sharing private conversations and creating a news article? nice.

What on earth was the point of this article? The entire internet is full of people writing articles and a bunch of other people shouting in agreement right below them. It’s happening in this comment section too!

I’m sorry, but this kind of crap is why Trump is president.  You don’t get to gloss over history for it not being woke enough.
