I’m not interested in taking a moral test. I know who I am. I was simply saying I’m not one of those dicks who is all “I don’t see color!” I’m acknowledging that all white people are racist and saying I still can’t understand how Michelle Obama can be viewed as not classy or dignified. I’m not trying to win any Woke

I’m a white person and as such work diligently against my own racism on a daily basis. I openly acknowledge that racism exists within all white people and must be challenged.

President Gunn to Congress: “MAKE. IT. WORK.”

“Whiteness” is a construct designed by a particular group of people in order to exclude particular other groups and deny them their rights. It has been used to mean or to exclude a variety of people of varying skin tones and ethnic backgrounds, depending on what was convenient at the time. “Blackness” is also a social

I do encourage you to try Black Mirror again. The episodes are dark, but none of the others are really dark in the way that Ep1 is dark. All the others are... um... more intellectually depraved, I guess.

I stopped watching (though I did sneak back to watch Tobias Menzies’ scenes this past season because I love him). I was so pissed off when they killed Jon Snow, and then even more angry when they brought him back to life. Once a show resorts to cheap tricks and manipulation, I’m out of there.

I think the source of the problem is the same as for weary/wary, intents and purposes/intensive purposes, bated breath/baited breath, faint of heart/feint of heart. People don’t seem to read as much as they used to, so there are a bunch of phrases that people only know from conversation. If you’ve heard but never

I have been natural for about 20 years, but I have to say that in the 10 years or so that I relaxed my hair, I didn’t get chemical burns, hair loss, or breakage on a regular basis. I also had only professionals put chemicals in my hair (except for that time I dyed it myself...ugh) and can only remember one time that

Why aren’t you protesting the issue of whites killing whites?

WOMEN have a right to be angry. Black women even more so. Pissed chicks get things done.

Just because you don’t know something doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. People get together to protest and act on crime in their (segregated) neighborhoods all the time. Usually when regular people commit crimes they are punished for them.

You broke the ewww-o-meter

Note that these people never suggest the man’s salary is cutting into their pay or that he sacrifice part of his earning power to help them earn more.

I’ve been thinking, in general, about the average people who get to meet the president. Usually it’s an honor, and is because you either did something cool or something terrible happened. I cannot imagine it being an honor to meet Trump, and I would be really pissed if my chance to meet a president happened and it

He will never get on the faculty of Trump University now. SAD.

I am going to look for the book on Amazon. thanks for the recommendation and the thoughtful reply.

Well, if race did not exist and did not have the social implications it does in this country, then nepotism wouldn’t be a race issue. But as it stands, even poor white people are more likely to have wealthy social connections than people of color—because white people, as a whole, have tons more social and financial

We’re talking about this culture, its history, and how nepotism functions here, though. Nobody who is disagreeing with you actually claimed that it’s the same in other places.

Nope, not limited to a racial issue, but it is often a racial issue. If more white people are employed than any other race, more white people are decision makers about hiring, and most white people don’t have any Black, Latino, 1st Nations, or Asian friends or family... it’s an unfair advantage for white people.

As a white woman who grew up lower middle class, I disagree. You’re comparing yourself to wealthy people of other races, and rendering invisible the poor people and women of color whose poverty is augmented by not having whiteness/maleness at their disposal.
