Please kindly explain to her that patriotism is not the same as blind allegiance, that nationalism is not the same as national pride, and that a bunch of brave people acted in the national interest, not just self interest, by storming a cockpit on 9/11 to “impeach” the pilot.

This is what happens after three decades of systematic defunding of the education system. Americans are now braindead enough that they can’t even chew gum and taste it at the same time.

Trouble is, if this bill passes, or if other actions get taken over the next two years that alienate other nations or cancel/violate treaties currently in place, then other nations are not just going to say, “oh, you changed; we trust you now.” These things have serious, long-term implications.

I disagree. Trump’s comments on the UN and NATO make this very Trump related. Before it’s been a symbolic bit of red meat for the far-right. Now, there’s a real sense something might happen.

I know this and other equally insane bills have been introduced before, but this is the first time I’ve genuinely felt like they had a shot at passing. The next 2 years are going to be rough. And then we’re taking back the fucking House and can put the breaks on some insanity.
