I’m only disappointed in these never-ending incorrectly interpreted fashion posts, is that there is barely any sense of history, any sense of deep knowledge, of what these individual designers are doing. Not understanding a designer’s, e.g. Jacobs, way of designing and using past personal references in club and art

I don’t think this is one of those fights people should start. Doing the cultural appropriation or “we invented that, you can’t use it” angle is going to result in some pretty hurt feelings with African Americans. As in “Hey, you can’t do that, we invented baggy jeans.”

I don’t get it either, and I’m black. I know LOTS of white people who rock dreads. When did they become black-only?

Which is to say white people are afforded the range of motion to adopt black hairstyles such as dreads and rows

In the mid-80s, around the time Jacobs was working at Charivari and being a club kid, there was a trend of hair extension weaves in the clubs. It came over from London and the “Hard Times” look promulgated by Vivienne Westwood and others (as seen on Boy George, Hayzee Fantayzee, and other groups of that moment). They

a) Criticizing someone for appropriating Harajuku is silly, because Harajuku itself borrows from non-Japanese cultures.

I get that he has a history of cultural appropriation, but I don’t see how this is that - dreadlocks have been found in countless cultures all over the world.

Dude, if I were the poor sister I would tell bride sister to absolutely take rich sister’s money. Then we could split the cash to go do something awesome just the two of us. And if we’re feeling bitchy we could plaster pics all over Facebook of our great time together. We could even tag mean sister like, “Without Mary

Give me a fucking break. Re-traumatised by what?

This is true. Part of the tragedy of this is that, after it happened, women who were genuine rape victims at UVA came forward, with some of them saying, I would have talked to her.Erdley wanted the most outrageous, most twisted story she could find, damn the consequences. She didnt even fact check the most basic

You have said all that needs to be said on this subject.

This jury of one finds in favor of the plaintiff. Rolling Stones, pay the lady.

The lack of a sense of humor on this site is really getting to be too much.

I thought it was a joke. I mean, the Q&A in this shows are all pre-screened. The iterviewee knows the questions ahead of time and the interviewer knows pretty much what they’re going to say.

That’s right! Stephen Colbert= Aryan Brotherhood. Got it!

THIS IS JEZEBEL. THERE CAN BE NO HUMOR OR JOKES UNLESS IT IS AT THE EXPENSE OF MEN - PARTICULARLY WHITE MEN.

My god- this was a fucking joke!!! Colbert intended it as a joke, she knew it was a joke, the audience knew it was a joke. Kind of like when African Americans say, “Bill Clinton was the first Black President.” It’s tongue in cheek. Humor, with a 1% touch of truth.

He is. His whole response to that ‘ching chong ding dong’ bit a few years ago was evidence of that.

I feel he often plays devil’s advocate when interviewing people on his show. I desperately want to believe it’s so he can kind of be the voice of a lot of right wing viewers and give the guest a chance to explain things to dumb conservatives but he often goes so far I wonder if he actually just is this person.

But it’s akin to calling Americans “English.” I mean, I get that it’s colloquial but it’s just so wrong. And I also wonder why east coasters use it but west coasters don’t.
