It's important to remember that the writer is just one person on the spectrum with one opinion on the series' quality and portrayal. It seems in general Aspies are enjoying and identifying with it. Anyone that says it has "no real payoff" misses the point of the film. The beginning asks both the main character and the viewer why did he get assaulted.
