Agreed. I like the purse one because yeah I have a lot of stuff in my purse and don’t judge me. Especially don’t judge me when I just happen to have a mini stain remover and thereby rescue your suit after the incident at lunch.

I like them alright too. The poker one gives me fond memories of the times men have underestimated me and then I win the thing.
I’m so on board with this as a marketing strategy. It makes me want to see the movie just to reward them for thinking of this.
By the way, when people wonder why there aren’t more women filmmakers, this kind of shit is a huge factor. Of course there’s terrible behavior in every industry, but any woman working in this business encounters this kind of crap all the time, and it tends to cramp your style when you have to spend the bulk of your…
If having fun in this department ensures that I avoid marriage, then I’m all in. Everybody wins!
Echoing lawlover’s comment, this is entirely consistent with conservative ideology about charity, which is ultimately more about the emotional rewards it brings to the giver than to the receiver. To actually research the problem and make the larger structural changes that would help not just that individual family,…
I wish I had a ten year old so I could help them write a letter to the President telling him what’s what.
Pretty sure he’d counter with a big “actually” on the “black” part. ;)
I was at a matinee recently with an audience consisting largely of awesome 80-something ladies, and they showed the trailer for Atomic Blonde. One of the women behind me said to her friend “I bet she had to practice a lot for those fight scenes. I want to see this.”
I feel terrible for the parents and I can’t imagine their desperation. Meanwhile, my disgust at 45's posturing just reached a new level, especially given the grotesque irony of his attempts to decimate health care, vilify and silence scientists, and so forth - you know, the kinds of things that allow people to receive…
This looks great - have you seen the whole movie?
I hope so! I also hope they steer clear of WWII, at least for the moment. There are so many interesting periods and places in the 20th Century.
Agreed that the novel is garbage, but what’s so sad is that Taylor-Johnson, who is a very smart director, could have pulled an American Psycho, i.e. taking questionable source material and making it into a movie that is 1000% better than the novel. From what I understand, a lot of her ideas for the adaptation would…
Everything about that review was gross. If I detailed everything I hated about it I’d be here all day, but I’ll go ahead and point out his comment about how all the positive reviews of the films show that reviewers are grading “on a curve” - fuck you, man. So, people are evaluating a superhero movie as a superhero…
You’re right that we should be smart consumers and make a point of paying for stories that eschew stereotypes, but there are countless examples of diverse films that have made plenty of money, and yet a curious amnesia comes over the people making the decisions about what kinds of movies get made - they forget where…
It’s interesting how she framed these remarks in terms of the impact of watching 20 films in a short period of time. I was on the jury for a film festival a few years back (a small, local festival, basically the opposite of Cannes), and the process made me realize how much violence against women is a default narrative…
Against my better judgement, I read a couple of paragraphs from the Pearls’ book. The language is so horrifying - continually comparing children to dogs and mules and suggesting that you train them in the same ways. (To be clear, I’m not suggesting it’s ok to train animals with violent means, but it gives you an idea.)
Who let Trump see that movie The Interview? I bet he thinks meeting Kim Jong Un would basically be a bro’s weekend with a Katy Perry soundtrack.
I wish I could remember the particulars, but my understanding is it kept calling things off and he’d have to wipe “her” memory over and over.
