I recall reading an account of a guy who developed one of the first AI sex dolls (he combined a commercial doll with an early AI system) and indeed, the computer kept breaking up with him. So, yeah, even the sex robot he programmed kept coming to the conclusion that she could do better.

That’s awesome. I went to see it for the second time yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised to see an fairly substantial audience, and mostly of people who you wouldn’t think of as horror film demographic, i.e. lots of silver-haired folks out for a Sunday matinee.

Agreed - there are so many problems with this. Another thing they didn’t take into account was the effects of television. The NYU study asked for the impressions of people who were in the room, but that’s not how the electorate as a whole experiences candidates. (In fact, I’ve heard many accounts of Hillary that say

Oh, I know. They want to drive people to take ever more desperate measures, which will in turn justify their crackdown. After the horrible mosque shooting in Quebec, Trump’s people actually said that it was an example of why they needed the travel ban. I guess those Muslims shouldn’t have been in Canada or they

This is so evil I can barely process it. People will freeze to death.

:(

In their twisted worldview (and that of their supporters) I bet they would argue that by deporting a domestic abuse victim they are doing her a favor by getting her away from the boyfriend. Meanwhile, inside their fetid minds, they figure that domestic abuse is her just desserts for being “an illegal.”

I love how Justin grabs DT’s upper arm - I’m reading it as “I’m just checking out your bicep and tricep tone. Huh. Yeah. That’s what I thought.”

The only thing that confuses me is why these newly-discovered outtakes from Dr. Strangelove, or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb are in color.

Eliminating the NEH basically means an end to Humanities research - you know, the thing where people write history books in the hopes that we won’t repeat our mistakes.

The Republicans’ objection isn’t about the particularities of the name. It’s part of a script designed to shut down critical discussion of race, where the person who says “we need to talk about race” is the racist because they are the one bringing up race. This is scary stuff, and will get scarier after January 20th.

Hahaha - that’s exactly the kind of step-by-step coaching and support I would need to read this book. :)

I’m impressed with the bravery of people who manage to read these books. I’ve tried reading a sentence or two and I fine the terribleness so debilitating. There’s nothing erotic about any sentence that includes “associated with.”

My problem with this is that the fake stories weren’t “Bigfoot spotted in Los Angeles!” harmless stupidness, but rather “Muslims are plotting against us” and similar - stories that he knew very well support a worldview where it’s fine to vandalize your local mosque, harass the lady in the hijab at the grocery store,

Well, I’ve seen the barrage of mutilated women and animals. Thanks for saying I’m making it up.

Because she has millions of followers. As much as her message grosses me out, I think there’s a utility to hearing how her rhetoric works so that one can understand how a Trump voter rationalizes their thoughts and actions.

Stopping safe abortions, natch. They’re fine with women bleeding out after a botched job. I’ve heard of people stockpiling Plan B, both for themselves and to help out other women.

There’s something cowardly about making a “statement” when all you’re doing is creating difficult and awkward situations for low-pay employees who have no power in the corporation they work for. There’s nothing clever about hassling a barista - someone who needs to keep their job and now has to figure out the
