With all due respect to the folks on here who think it's to "look white," I think it's a typical form of Western chauvinism to believe that all people want to look Caucasian at all times.

I want to defend 2NE1 just a little, they've been openly called the ugliest girl group in Korea for their not so conventional looks, and they've been one of the few groups to confront the issue of beauty standards head on with their song "Ugly".
