They were dug up by “pro life” nutjobs who wanted to trash him for coming out in favor of legal protection for choice for late term pregnant women. It’s just dumb luck they found something and then he flubbed every possible response. 

There’s a line in Spotlight like “it takes a village to abuse a child”. The actual abuser always has support and cover. Without that, they’d never get away with it. 

The answer to that would be to codify the escalating actions as a crime. Start taking that stuff serious as a pattern of behavior and not just an acceptable strategy to “win” her back.
