My sister and I argue about this all the time. We grew up fairly lower middle-class, but our grandparents were always there to buy new tires or help my mom with grocery money. So many people don’t have that and when you do have it - that safety net - it’s easy to take it for granted that you aren’t really looking at…
Any stories that Jezebel publishes about money and poverty as it relates to all kinds of women are stories I want to read. There’s so much shame and secrecy about finances in our culture, and stories like this have a way of lancing those boils and making everything clearer and easier for everybody.
I have to recall that graph a lot when talking to people about DV. That should be given to teenagers in health class or homeroom or something... I’ve found that the concept of the cycle clicks with people once they see it explained this way.

At least it’s an alternative to the plastic microbead-based scrubs that are so ubiquitous (and terrible for the oceans). But if someone comes up with a more gentle, biodegradable exfoliating scrub, I’m all ears!

The nondisclosure of evidence is obviously a legal problem (and that’s why his conviction was overturned), but it’s not the kind of issue Jezebel would write about. I think the main problem with the law is that while it appears to be neutral on its face, I suspect it’s often only enforced against gay men
Very true. And this (the getting out of the house bit) goes for the elderly, too. They are especially vulnerable when it comes to conspiracy theories.
