I second this. Switching to pads for the night was so nice, I now just wear pads whenever I'm home and save the tampons for when I'm out and about. I find my periods are less painful and actually got a bit shorter. I have insane cramps that make me throw up, so anything to ease that is worth it.

I have pretty good insurance through kaiser, and they covered it. I just had a co-pay for outpatient surgery and that's it. $150!
