My parents are in their late 80s. They live in a small town. There is a government-run home in town, with independent cottages all around it. My parents are already very elderly. They have a very comfortable life right now, and will continue to have one even with failing independence. The only snag will be if one get dementia or becomes very, very ill, as they’ll have to be moved to the city, which they won’t want.

I will never be responsible for my mother’s caregiving. Thank you Jesus.

I can’t even do the strokes. I manage one or two, then start to panic every time. And I can’t seem to coordinate the moving of arms AND the moving of feet AND the moving of legs. It’s too complicated and I get confused, and then I sink, and then I panic.

One cat likes to drag socks all over the house. At any point, there are at least 3 socks on the hallway floor somewhere.

I so wish I could swim. I’ve taken 3 beginner adult “learn to swim” courses and all I can do is float on my back.
