Actually, I think the other more specific issue here is that African-American folk tend to think that they're the only group in the diaspora that deals with any significant form of racism today—hence the reference to British folk apparently enjoying interracial dating problem free for a century or so. A pretty

And yet the Women's March was also not more accessible than today's strike for a lot of us because there's a significant portion of the women's workforce who can't afford weekends either, or were disabled or for any other number of reasons.

"sterilised against her will in the 2010s"?

What jumps out at me the most in this post is that S&S were so maliciously petty as to move his book date to align with hers in an attempt to what…? Get back at Gay somehow? I had zero intention of avoiding their books because major publishers are such huge conglomerates these days…but I just checked the list of their

Late interjection but also consider internalised racism. There are loooots of black folk who "woke" up recently and it wasn't because they had much of any privilege traditionally.

Interesting. I must be in touch with an entirely different part of the fan base because the "solemnity" they showed Lemonade had as much to do with the historical, religious and cultural symbolism—including her casting choices—woven throughout the visual album rather than just being about infidelity.

Hah? Wrong site. You should have taken the left turn at Albuquerque.

Could we not? Thanks.

Yeah and he fucked shit up for everyone for forever. If that's not impressive idk what is.

Couldn't he just be Ungoliant or one of her kids? Morgoth is too impressive to be a Putin.

I fondly remember that I first provoked such a reaction for mentioning that I'd read The Silmarillion. As a teen in Jamaica pre-LOTR/HP movies no one knew about that shit at all. I had to order the books (like the Carpenter bio) on Amazon and wait for a relative to visit before I could get em. Good times (not really).

I got a thrill out of hearing some Dwarvish lines in the battle scenes and anything with Thranduil. Lee Pace made me consider for a few moments what a dream it would be to see The Silmarillion on screen with Tolkien elves as they ought to be. Then I lit some incense and prayed that Christopher Tolkien would live for

At this point I just have to laugh at the tenor of comments these sort of posts predictably generate, in the so-called enlightened, progressive space AV Club is…or something.

Seriously. The white tears are flowing…

a lot

Oooo, so they get the safe space while others should suffer for the sake of the awkwardness of "virgin nerds"? They're not special, it doesn't make them sympathetic, or pitiable, or whatever fucking self-involved claptrap men come up with to describe the completely unremarkable state of a) having an interest and b)

Yaay…

As a book fan the Azkaban film was also my favourite but I believe it had the lowest box office both domestically and internationally of all the HP films so…

But I can't think of any of the HP films with more plot detail that were at all as interesting as the Azkaban film in terms of visual style, feel, acting….just about anything. I don't really care if a film adaptation of the book is more faithful to the text if it doesn't make the film experience more vibrant.

Yeah…I'm not looking forward to this. I've read the Carpenter bio and his Letters. This idea sounds goddamn boring.
