Haha, their feet were much smaller than ours, so staircases (if they’re original to the house) are often much narrower and steeper!  

My house is 118 years old!  It is drafty in the kitchen, which is the only room without actual radiator in it, but it stays surprisingly cozy in the ND winters!  They knew how to build ‘em back in the day.  Also, modern insulation does wonders.
