Handmaid’s Tale protests are a perfect example of the Instagramification of protest movement. It’s cosplay. Nothing more, nothing less. As someone who has attended many a Comicon over the years, I know cosplay when I see it.

Except there isn’t strong evidence she lied in her op-ed - the issue at hand. What we have here is just demonstration that a jury of lay people will reliably buy into misogynist narratives about conniving women and imperfect victims.

I think the loudest message this sends is, “tell someone, and don’t let your abuser get away with it.” The fact that the victim had to relive this shit on two continents over years is appalling. Even now, there are people are siding with his abuser. Lesson one here: abusers don’t always win.
