After the suggestion to watch the Great Pottery Throwdown (which you should watch), I have been down a youtube k-hole of British, low stakes competitions shows. In no particular order:

And I really think these people are the actual problem.
They don’t know things, they don’t care to learn them. They may briefly wonder how things work, but that thought is lost in the time it would take for them to take their future phone out of their pocket and get the answer.

I don’t know if it’s accessible from overseas (might need a VPN to access it, and that may not work either), but SBS On Demand has a good range of crime and mystery shows. Agatha Christie’s Criminal Games is a French adaption of her novels set in the ‘50s that’s fun, and similar in feel to Midsomer Murders.
Australia, America and the UK are three peas in a disappointing pod at the moment, though at least our Prime Minister is occasionally cogent (not often, mind you).
In America, celebrities are treated as experts on all topics. Thats why we have a celebrity as president of the country. Its fucking stupid.
Here in Australia, we probably get all of these shows - at any given time you can probably turn on free to air TV and find something that fits the criteria.
In the same vein, what about Trial and Retribution? Maybe that's drifting further into general crime rather than murder mystery though.
