Depending on the hotel/motel.  I leave $5/day for an average room where I tidy up each day, anyway.  No one in Housekeeping is going to be upset over getting $5 instead of $10 because most people don’t tip at all.

I worked as a motel maid one summer and as a result, already do most of this described in the article. I would add just one thing - acknowledge and say hello to housekeeping when you see them in the hallway.
